A tragic clash occurred between security operatives and criminals in the Yar Taipa area of Birdigau ‘J’ located between Malumfashi and Kankara LGA in Katsina State, resulting in casualties on both sides. Sanusi Hassan, the Commander of the Katsina Community Watch Corps (KCWC) for Kankara LGA, along with four local vigilantes and two individuals from Birdigau, lost their lives during the confrontation.
The security operatives had launched a raid on the criminals' hideout following an intelligence report indicating that notorious bandit leaders Dankarami and Barbaru had established a new base in Yar Tepa. These criminals had reportedly been planning and carrying out attacks on nearby communities from this location, deviating from their usual operations in the bush.
Despite facing stiff resistance from the bandits, the security forces managed to inflict heavy casualties on the criminals, with over 20 reported dead on their side. Sanusi Hassan, in particular, showed remarkable bravery in the face of danger, eliminating numerous bandits before tragically losing his life in the line of duty.
Following the ground confrontation, an air raid targeted Dinary Primary School in Yargoje village, where the fleeing bandits had reportedly gathered. This airstrike disrupted their attempts to retrieve the bodies of their fallen comrades, although the exact number of casualties from the airstrike remains undetermined.
The clash underscores the ongoing challenges posed by criminal elements in the region and the risks faced by security forces and community volunteers in combating these threats.
