Economic Hardship: “Shun Protest In Interest Of Peace” – DSS Urges Labour

The Department of State Services (DSS) has made an appeal to organized labor to reconsider its planned nationwide protest over economic challenges, citing concerns about peace and public order.

Last Friday, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced a two-day nationwide protest to draw attention to the hardships faced by Nigerians amidst the country's security situation.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the DSS urged all parties involved to prioritize dialogue and negotiation over actions that could escalate tensions.

Afunanya emphasized that the government at all levels is working to improve the prevailing economic conditions and should be given the benefit of the doubt.

He stated, "While the Service recognizes such action as the legitimate right of the labor movement, it, however, urges the body to shelve the plan in the interest of peace and public order."

The DSS expressed concerns that certain elements might exploit the protests to incite crisis and widespread violence, which would exacerbate the socio-economic situation across the country.

The appeal from the DSS underscores the importance of constructive dialogue and peaceful means of addressing grievances, while also acknowledging the rights of citizens to express their concerns within the bounds of the law.

We are always talking about 'in the interest of peace'. People are hungry and the DSS is telling them not to kick against the system. For once, let us leave this 'interest of peace' and fight against this system of slavery. As the saying goes, if you push Nigerians to the wall they'll try and climb the wall rather than fight back.
