The Umaru Shinkafi Legacy Foundation recently conducted a humanitarian initiative in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, distributing food items to 500 vulnerable households. The aim was to alleviate economic hardship exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidy and ongoing security challenges in the state.
The coordinator of the foundation in the area, Aliyu Sani, explained that the gesture targeted vulnerable households, including female-headed families, orphans, people with disabilities, and the elderly. The distributed items included rice, millet, maize, and cooking oil, tailored to meet the specific needs of each household.
Each beneficiary household received a 50kg bag of rice, along with packages of maize and millet, as well as a gallon of cooking oil. This assistance was intended to provide relief to families facing difficulties due to economic hardships.
Representatives from the Zurmi Local Council, including the Sole Administrator Alhaji Aminu Atiku Zurmi, expressed appreciation for the timely intervention. They highlighted the challenges faced by the community, particularly the impact of insecurity on families affected by banditry activities.
Beneficiaries, represented by Ummaru Mai’injin and Suwaiba Bature, expressed gratitude to the foundation for the support provided. They called on government authorities and individuals to continue extending assistance to rural communities facing economic challenges.
