Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential aide, has condemned the threats made by an Islamic cleric against the wife of the President, Remi Tinubu, and called for security operatives to take action against the cleric. The cleric had stated that Remi Tinubu deserved to be killed by Muslims for her perceived role as a leader of infidels.
Ahmad emphasized that such statements by the cleric deviate from the core principles of Islam, which advocate for peace, respect, tolerance, and kindness towards all individuals, regardless of their faith or background. He highlighted that Islam promotes peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among diverse communities.
Ahmad cited examples from the Quran and Hadith to support his argument, including instances where Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) peacefully coexisted with people of different faiths and even allowed Christians to conduct their worship within his mosque.
He urged authorities to invite the Islamic cleric for questioning regarding his inflammatory statements.
Remi Tinubu, the wife of the Nigerian leader, is a Christian and an ordained pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Her ordination took place in 2018 during the church's annual convention themed "Dominion."
