The DashMe Foundation, a non-governmental organization founded by former finance minister, Kemi Adeosun, has joined forces with Grammy Award-winning singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, to undertake the renovation of the renowned Cheshire Home. Situated in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Cheshire Home has long been a refuge for physically challenged individuals in the region.
Established several decades ago, Cheshire Home has weathered economic challenges over the years, leading to the deterioration of its infrastructure. Recognizing the need for revitalization, the DashMe Foundation initiated the REACH Nigeria Foundation project in July 2023, in collaboration with Burna Boy, aiming to restore hope and dignity to the facility's beneficiaries.
In a statement shared with Society Plus, Flobetta Halliday, Chairperson of the DashMe Foundation, expressed the organization's commitment to the project. She announced that after seven months of dedicated efforts, the facility's renovation has been completed and is set to be unveiled on Friday, March 1, 2024, in the Borikiri area of Port Harcourt.
Halliday emphasized the vital role that Cheshire Home has played in providing support and shelter to the physically challenged community in Port Harcourt and its surroundings. The partnership between DashMe Foundation and Burna Boy signifies a significant step towards rejuvenating the facility and empowering its residents for a brighter future.
