The Plateau State Police Command has apprehended a 29-year-old man, Joseph Yakubu, for allegedly murdering his father, Yakubu Dalyop, with a pestle in the Anglo-Jos community, Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was part of a series of suspects paraded for various offenses by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Yabanet, at the command’s headquarters in Jos on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.

According to CP Yabanet, the incident occurred following a minor misunderstanding between the suspect and his father on February 15, 2024, during which Joseph Yakubu struck his father with a pestle on the head.

Yakubu Dalyop was rendered unconscious and subsequently rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on February 19, 2024, while receiving treatment.

The suspect, Joseph Yakubu, has been arrested, and the deceased's body has been deposited at the same hospital mortuary.

CP Yabanet disclosed that the case is currently under investigation, and upon its conclusion, the suspect will be charged to court.

In response to the security situation in the state, CP Yabanet announced the implementation of a new operational template designed to flush out criminals across Plateau State. He highlighted the recent successes of the command in apprehending criminals involved in various offenses, including kidnapping and culpable homicide.

CP Yabanet assured the public of the command's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Plateau State, urging the community's support and cooperation in achieving this objective.
