Two men, Gabriel Godwin and John Julius, were brought before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for allegedly stealing property valued at N685,000 from a house.

The defendants, who have no fixed residential addresses, are facing a two-count charge of break-in and stealing. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 16 at No. 3, Doka Street, Narayi, Kaduna.

Leo explained that the defendants, along with two others who are still at large, broke into the house of the complainant, Mr. Aaron Okoro, and stole his property.

He stated that the stolen items included clothes valued at N240,000, jewellery worth N195,000, and two TV sets valued at N250,000.

Additionally, Leo mentioned that the defendants damaged the complainant’s door, which cost N50,000, while attempting to enter the house.

The prosecutor indicated that the offences contravene the provisions of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 each, along with two sureties each in like sum.

Emmanuel specified that the sureties must be civil servants on salary Grade Level 09 and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

The case was adjourned until March 18 for further hearing.
