The protest staged by aggrieved residents of Goningora in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State underscores the deep-seated concerns regarding the worsening insecurity in the region. The citizens, fed up with the incessant bandit attacks on their communities and the Abuja-Kaduna highway, took to the streets to voice their grievances.

The trigger for the protest was a recent attack on the night of Wednesday, February 28th, 2024, where numerous community members were kidnapped, and two people, including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, were tragically killed.

The residents' anger and frustration spilled over into the morning as they blocked the Abuja-Kaduna highway, one of the major arteries in the region, causing significant congestion and leaving countless motorists stranded.

This latest assault on the Goningora community comes on the heels of a recent military operation that resulted in the elimination of a notorious bandit leader, Boderi Isyaku, and several of his followers in the Chikun local government area. However, despite these efforts, the security situation remains precarious, as evidenced by the brazen attack and the destruction of a military armoured vehicle by the bandits.

The protest serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for concerted efforts by both the government and security agencies to address the root causes of insecurity in the region and restore peace and stability to the affected communities.
