The Gombe State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects, Bashir Haruna and Mohammed Isah, for their involvement in criminal conspiracy and the adulteration of food items, specifically rice.
According to a press statement issued by Deputy Public Relations Officer P. Sharif Sa’ad, the suspects were apprehended for deliberately mixing approximately 57 bags of rice with chaff, with the intention of deceiving the public and selling it at market price.
The arrest was made by policemen from the Akko Division following credible intelligence received on February 24, 2024, around 11:00 am. The suspects were intercepted and arrested while in possession of the bags containing the mixture of rice and chaff.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their actions of mixing the bags and selling them to unsuspecting buyers. They have since been charged to court to face the appropriate legal consequences for their actions.
The Gombe State Police Command reiterated its commitment to serving the people of Gombe by ensuring the protection of lives and properties, maintaining law and order, and diligently investigating and prosecuting offenders.
