In an unsettling turn of events, residents of Zaria, Kaduna State, reportedly looted multiple cartons of noodles from a BUA company truck transporting foodstuffs on Friday.

According to a resident from the town who spoke to SaharaReporters, the incident occurred in the Dogarawa area of Zaria. Allegedly, some youths, angered by perceived price hikes by certain manufacturers, including BUA, halted the truck and accused the company of exacerbating financial hardships for ordinary citizens.

Seizing what they saw as an opportunity, residents rushed to the truck and began looting cartons of noodles loaded at the back.

Despite attempts to reach out to the Kaduna State Police Spokesman, Mohammad Jalagie, for comment on the matter, there has been no response to calls and text messages.

This incident adds to a series of recent events reflecting growing discontent over economic conditions in various parts of Nigeria. Just days ago, SaharaReporters highlighted a protest by inmates at the Correctional Centre in Jos, Plateau State, triggered by plans to reduce their food rations. The inmates reportedly began protesting upon learning of the proposed cutbacks, underscoring the heightened sensitivity surrounding issues related to food security and affordability.
