Tensions escalated in Wurna village, Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State, as residents took to the streets in protest against the persistent bandit attacks plaguing their community.

In a bid to draw attention to their plight, villagers set up bonfires and barricaded the Katsina-Dutsinma highway on Friday, disrupting the flow of traffic and leaving numerous travelers stranded. Some vehicles were compelled to seek alternative routes through bush paths, navigating their way to Dutsinma through unconventional means.

Despite attempts by media outlets to obtain comments from the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, no response was received at the time of press.

According to Abdulkarim, a resident of the village who spoke with The Nation, the community has endured relentless bandit attacks for the past four days, plunging them into a constant state of fear and insecurity.

To address the escalating situation, security operatives have been deployed to the area, working diligently to restore order and safeguard the affected community.

As the situation unfolds, residents and authorities remain on high alert, bracing themselves for further developments amidst the ongoing security challenges in the region.
