The Nigerian football community is in mourning following the passing of Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, a former goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, after her valiant eight-year battle with Bosom  cancer. The news was officially confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) via their official communication channels on Saturday.

In a statement released on their social media platforms, the NFF expressed their sorrow at the loss, stating, “We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Super Falcons goalkeeper, Bidemi Aluko-Olaseni, after an eight-year struggle with cancer. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family. May her soul rest in eternal peace.”

Aluko's journey with cancer began in April 2017 when she received her initial diagnosis. Following treatment and a mastectomy, she was given a clean bill of health a year later. However, the resilient athlete faced another setback when she was diagnosed with the disease once again in January 2019, leading to a rigorous regimen of 10 chemotherapy sessions.


Throughout her battle, Aluko-Olaseni remained a symbol of strength and courage, inspiring many with her unwavering spirit and determination. Her contributions to Nigerian football, both on and off the field, will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
