In a concerted effort to combat illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta region, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe has conducted air strikes targeting illicit oil refining sites in Krakama and Temakiri, located in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), AVM Edward Gabkwet, disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday, detailing the successful interdiction mission carried out on Friday.
According to Gabkwet, the operation marks a continuation of the ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which pose significant threats to the nation's economy and environmental sustainability. The targeted locations, situated approximately 50 kilometers southwest of Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, were identified as hotspots for illegal refining activities.
During the air strikes, both illegal refining sites and accompanying boats were destroyed, dealing a significant blow to the operations of oil thieves in the region. Additionally, reconnaissance missions extended to Abisse and Omoma revealed abandoned illegal refining sites, indicating the effectiveness of ongoing efforts to disrupt illicit activities across the Niger Delta.
"The armed reconnaissance was also extended to Abisse and Omoma, but only abandoned illegal refining sites were observed," Gabkwet stated, underscoring the commitment of the NAF and other security agencies to rid the Niger Delta of criminal elements engaged in oil theft.
Efforts to combat illegal oil activities remain a top priority for authorities, as they work tirelessly to safeguard national resources and protect the environment from the detrimental effects of crude oil theft and pollution. The successful air strikes represent a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the Niger Delta region.
