In a disturbing turn of events, an angry mob lynched two mobile policemen attached to former lawmaker Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje in the Akoko-Edo Constituency I of Edo State on Friday.

Reports from DAILY POST reveal that the deceased officers were part of a four-member team assigned to the former legislator.

The incident unfolded when the police vehicle, a Toyota Hilux Van, reportedly collided with a motorcycle in front of Ikpeshi Grammar School, resulting in the tragic deaths of a woman, a student, and the motorcycle rider.

The mobile policemen, identified as members of Police Mobile Force 19 stationed in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, faced the wrath of the enraged crowd following the accident.

An anonymous police source disclosed that in retaliation for the deaths caused by the accident, the mob attacked and fatally assaulted an inspector and a sergeant, leaving two others injured and hospitalized.

The violence escalated as the youths targeted the Edo State Security Volunteer Network office where the surviving officers sought refuge. The mob overpowered the facility, killing two more policemen while the vigilante group managed to rescue the remaining officers.

According to the source, the mob also vandalized the vigilante office and threatened anyone attempting to aid the police officers.

The tragic incident led to the recovery of four rifles belonging to the deceased officers, while the bodies of both the policemen and the accident victims were transferred to the morgue for further examination.

Efforts are underway by the police to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the brutal killings.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, assuring that more details would be provided in due course.

In response to the tragedy, Hon. Tajudeen Alade, the chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, condemned the violent actions of the mob and praised the vigilante group for their efforts in protecting the surviving officers. Alade vowed to ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice and pledged support for the family of one of the motorcycle occupants who tragically lost their lives.
