The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna State Sector Commander, Kabir Nadabo, has disclosed that a tragic road crash along the Zaria-Kano expressway claimed the lives of 12 individuals while leaving 28 others injured.

Nadabo revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kaduna that the fatal incident occurred at Tashar Yari village around 7:36 am. He explained that a trailer with registration number KTG 454 ZZ was en route to Kano when the crash transpired.

According to Nadabo, the primary causes of the accident were attributed to wrongful overtaking, speeding, and overloading, factors that contributed to the severity of the casualties.

He further noted that the Chairman of Makarfi Local Government and the Unit Commander of Tashar Yari were present at the scene to assess the situation.

Nadabo elaborated that investigations into the crash indicated that a total of 40 individuals were involved, with 28 sustaining injuries and 12 tragically losing their lives. The injured victims were promptly transported to Makarfi General Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Additionally, Nadabo mentioned that the owner of the vehicle, who resides in Azare, Bauchi State, was duly informed and instructed to report to the Kaduna Sector Command. He also mentioned that the driver of the trailer was reportedly among the deceased.

Expressing the FRSC's commitment to road safety, Nadabo emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with stakeholders, particularly transport unions, to sensitize drivers about the perils of speeding, overloading, reckless driving, and the use of cellphones while driving.

In conclusion, Nadabo appealed to all motorists to prioritize safe driving practices, especially when traversing highways, to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
