In a distressing turn of events, gunmen suspected to be terrorists launched a brazen attack on a mosque during Friday prayers, resulting in the tragic death of two worshippers in Anguwar Makera, Kwasakwasa Community, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The harrowing incident unfolded around 2 pm on Friday, sending shockwaves through the community, as confirmed by a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity. Hudu Kwasakwasa, a local village leader, echoed the grim reality of the assault, recounting how the assailants indiscriminately opened fire on the unsuspecting worshippers.
"The two worshippers killed were among other Muslims attacked at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera when the bandits opened fire on them and abducted others today (Friday). The victims have been buried at Old Kuyello cemetery," he solemnly narrated.
This appalling act of violence transpired merely a day after bandits abducted over 287 students in the neighboring Chikun Local Government Area of the state, further exacerbating the prevailing sense of insecurity in the region.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of the heinous attack, both the state government and the police command have yet to issue official statements regarding the mosque incident. Despite attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for comment, no response has been forthcoming.
Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that worshippers were rudely interrupted during the second raka’at of the salat as the attackers struck, prompting survivors to flee in fear for their lives.
This latest assault compounds the escalating tensions in the region, with reports indicating that the same group of bandits had previously abducted nine individuals in Angwar Kanawa, a nearby hamlet within the Kwasakwasa area.
Calls for urgent intervention from relevant authorities resonate among the affected communities, as they grapple with the relentless onslaught of violence perpetrated by these marauding terrorists.
