In a significant development, law enforcement authorities have apprehended two suspects linked to the heinous killing of three individuals during an arson attack on Nta village in Ikom Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River State.
The accused perpetrators, believed to have orchestrated the devastating arson assault, were captured in Obubra LGA. Initially detained in Ikom LGA for a brief period, they were subsequently transferred to the state police headquarters in Calabar on Friday, March 15, for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
Confirming the arrests and subsequent detention, Divisional Police Officer in Ikom, Teryima Anthony, affirmed the ongoing efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice, hinting at the possibility of more arrests in connection with the crime.
The reprehensible arson attack, which claimed three lives, emerged from a longstanding communal conflict dating back to 1993 between the inhabitants of Ofunokpan in the Mbembe tribe, located in Obubra LGA, and the Nta community in Ikom LGA. The recent escalation in violence reignited tensions, culminating in the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property.
