About 60 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives have issued a threat to quit the party due to ongoing crises in Rivers State and 10 other chapters. Ikenga Ugochinyere, alongside five other members, conveyed this threat during a press conference at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Monday.

The lawmakers expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and demanded the removal of the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, before its rescheduled National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Speaking on behalf of the 60 PDP members in the House, they emphasized their opposition to the emergence of APC officials from within the PDP ranks, particularly in Rivers State and the 10 other states allegedly affected by APC interests. They stated that allowing this would effectively hand over the PDP to the APC, which they vehemently opposed.

The lawmakers raised concerns about a larger plot at play, suggesting that the imposition of APC officials as caretaker members within the PDP was part of a larger agenda. They sought to draw attention to what they perceived as an attempt to undermine the integrity of the PDP and its values.

The threat of resignation from such a significant number of PDP members in the House of Representatives underscores the depth of dissatisfaction within the party ranks and highlights the urgency for the party leadership to address the internal crises to prevent further defections and maintain cohesion.
