In a heartbreaking turn of events, Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche, an Air Force cadet, lost his life in a swimming pool accident at Damgrete Hotel in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, this past Tuesday. Sources close to the incident have disclosed, under anonymity, the series of events that led to this tragic outcome.

On the fateful day, Onyeomereneche reportedly visited the hotel's pool for a swim, seemingly unaware that the facility was under renovation at the time. The details surrounding his knowledge of the pool's condition remain unclear, leading to questions about the circumstances of his dive into the water.

Efforts to rescue Onyeomereneche were complicated by the pool's poor condition, with reports suggesting that no divers were available on-site to assist until the arrival of the Abia State Fire Service. Despite their efforts, the cadet's body was only retrieved from the water late in the evening, hours after he was last seen.

The presence of his swimming trunks on the recovered body indicated that Onyeomereneche had fully intended to swim, marking the incident as a sudden and unforeseen tragedy. The exact time of his disappearance from the pool was noted at approximately 6:37 pm, with his body not recovered until 9:58 pm.

Lt. Innocent Omale, the Army Public Relations Officer for the 14 Brigade, Ohafia, has confirmed the incident, noting that Onyeomereneche was in the company of friends at the time and had abruptly decided to jump into the pool.

The death has sparked an investigation into the precise cause and the safety measures in place at the hotel's swimming facility. As the community mourns the loss of the young cadet, questions linger about the adequacy of safety protocols and the need for stringent oversight at recreational facilities to prevent such tragedies in the future.

He saw the pool....he knows his swimming capability and he was in the company of his friends....nobody could stop him? And did all the friends just melted into thin air after he jumped in such that men could not hold themselves and rescue him before the 3hours lapses? It takes only 3mins for humans to go brain dead under water!
