Armed bandits reportedly ambushed and fatally shot six soldiers at Roro, Karaga, and Rumace communities in the Bassa Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State. The incident, which occurred on Friday night, April 19, 2024, also saw the abduction and alleged killing of a captain during the attack.

According to reports from Daily Trust, the soldiers had responded to a distress call, leaving their camps at Allawa and Erena. However, they fell into the deadly ambush laid by the armed bandits upon reaching Roro village.

The abducted captain, identified as Adamu, was reportedly killed by the assailants, adding to the tragic toll of lives lost in the attack.

Additionally, the bandits targeted innocent civilians, killing a hunter and two farmers in the process. They also set fire to houses, food storage facilities, and motorcycles, leaving destruction in their wake.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing ordeal, describing how the bandits, riding motorcycles, unleashed terror on the communities, shooting indiscriminately as they moved through the area.

Confirming the incident, Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier-General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, expressed government's resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“All hands are on deck to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act face the full wrath of the law. The government is committed to ending the insecurity issues plaguing the state and will provide support to the affected communities," he assured.

As investigations continue into the deadly ambush, residents of the affected communities mourn the loss of lives while calling for urgent measures to address the escalating insecurity in the region.

Defense Headquarters did you hear that? It is happening in the North again as always and this is the last we will hear of the tragic incident. No invasion of the town by the soldiers. No burning down of houses. No killing of the innocent indigenes of the community. No declaration of some people WANTED. As we speak OKUOMA COMMUNITY in Delta state has been taken over by Fulani herdsmen. That's RUGA for them.
