In a tragic incident, a father of two, known only as Amas, was electrocuted while working on a high tension pole in the Ekeki community of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The incident occurred near the Police Divisional Headquarters on Azikoro Road.

Amas, a resident of the neighborhood and a non-employee of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), was reportedly on the pole to connect clients to the national grid when he was electrocuted. Due to the poor power supply in the state, many residents prefer the federal line, which provides a more reliable power supply of 12 to 13 hours daily.

Eyewitnesses reported that Amas, originally from Nembe Local Government Area, remained stuck on the pole for hours before PHCN officials arrived. Unfortunately, by the time they managed to retrieve his body, he was already dead.

Michael Orubo, a resident of Azikoro Road who witnessed the incident, described Amas as a hardworking and easy-going individual who performed electrical work to support his family. "Amas lived on our street and did most of the connection work in this area. It is unfortunate that death came to him in such a manner. He just left us where we were playing chess, saying he would be back, but he never returned. Who will take care of the two kids he has left behind?" Orubo lamented.

Another resident, Ebi, recounted the moments leading up to the tragedy. "He just passed me not more than five minutes after the rain stopped. The next thing I heard was people screaming. We rushed to the scene but couldn't help because he was wearing a safety belt that held him tightly to the pole. There was nothing onlookers could do because they were all scared as it was still raining."

The lifeless body of Amas was eventually removed by a PHCN official after hanging on the pole for hours, marking a grim end to a dedicated worker's life.
