The 63-year-old Hodgson has signed a one-and-a-half-year deal at the Hawthorns and will take charge at WBA after this weekend's away match against West Ham United. Caretaker boss Michael Appleton will still coach West Bromwich on Saturday.
Hodgson had been out of work ever since he got the sack at Liverpool earlier this season. Former Newcastle boss Chris Hughton was also believed to be considered for the job, but West Bromwich have now appointed Hodgson instead.
The experienced coach previously worked at clubs such as Blackburn Rovers, Inter, Copenhagen, Udinese and Fulham. He has also been in charge of the national teams of Switzerlands and Finland. Hodgson was voted Manager of the Year by the League Manager’s Association last season after he led Fulham to the Europa League final.
