The Kano State Police Command has announced its commitment to abide by a court order restraining the appointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

In a press briefing held on Saturday, May 25, Commissioner of Police Muhammad Usaini Gumel affirmed that the command is complying with the court's directive to maintain the status quo until a ruling is delivered on June 3rd, 2024.

"We are adhering to the court order that mandates the preservation of the status quo until the court reaches its judgment," stated Gumel.

The police have issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the Emirs leading the five emirates, emphasizing their resolve to enforce law and order impartially.

Furthermore, the police commissioner clarified that the command has not received any directive from the state governor instructing the arrest of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. He mentioned that such orders were only observed through social media channels.

The announcement comes amidst ongoing tensions surrounding the appointment of emirs in Kano, underscoring the delicate balance of legal and traditional authority in the state.
