In a shocking midnight assault, gunmen attacked the Umu-Ezuboke Umualor community in Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu State, leaving at least four individuals hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, Mr. Methodist Ejiagbo, recounted the harrowing experience from his hospital bed. He revealed that threats had been made against him three months prior by individuals from Abakaliki, warning of an impending attack to seize his home and land. Ejiagbo identified one of the instigators as Friday Ukeh, who coveted his house, calling it the "most beautiful house around."

Ejiagbo described how, on the evening before the attack, he noticed two Hilux vans and a Sienna bus, with occupants dressed in what appeared to be police uniforms. These men confiscated phones and machetes from locals returning from their farms, sparing only those not from Umu-Ezuboke.

The attack began around 11 p.m. "They started shooting everybody," Ejiagbo recounted. "They used machetes and clubs to break people's hands." He mentioned seeing the assailants three days earlier carrying a talisman, which they later realized was a bulletproof charm.

Ejiagbo identified several attackers, including Tubor, Friday Ukeh, Mark Anyigor, and others. He stated that the attackers were a combined force from Amankanu and Abakaliki, targeting their community over a land dispute.

As of the time of reporting, Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer Daniel Ndukwe had not responded to inquiries regarding the incident.

The community remains in shock and fear as authorities investigate the brutal attack.
