Peter Obi Condemns Kidnappings and Ransom Demands in Foreign Currency, Calls for Stronger
Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has voiced grave concerns over the escalating trend of kidnappings and ransom demands in foreign currency, stressing their detrimental impact on Nigeria’s economy.

In a series of statements and tweets, Obi expressed dismay over recent incidents, including the abduction of Mohamed Fouani, managing director of Fouani Company, and three other Lebanese nationals in Lagos. He highlighted these events as stark examples of the worsening insecurity plaguing the nation, leading to economic instability and jeopardizing the lives of citizens.

Obi particularly lamented the reported attack on Dudun Doki village in Sokoto State, where gunmen reportedly killed over ten people and abducted several others on a day that should have been marked by peace and solemnity.

"The use of boats for kidnapping and the demand for ransoms in foreign currency represent a disturbing escalation in the insecurity we are grappling with," Obi remarked. "These developments exacerbate socio-economic implications and threaten our national stability."

He called for urgent and concerted efforts to curb these terror acts and ensure the safe rescue of all abductees, including Mr. Fouani. Emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures, Obi urged the government and security agencies to adopt stringent strategies to tackle insecurity across the country effectively.

"On this solemn day, I implore Almighty Allah to accept our prayers for the nation, show us mercy, and intervene in our current challenges," Obi concluded.

His remarks underscore the growing urgency to address Nigeria's security crisis and protect its citizens from the devastating impact of criminal activities like kidnapping and terrorism.
