Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has set a historic milestone with his hit song ‘Calm Down,’ becoming the first African track to surpass 1 billion on-demand streams in the United States.

The remarkable achievement was confirmed by Chart Data, an American music stats company, which tweeted, “REMA’s ‘Calm Down’ becomes the first Afrobeats song in history to earn over 1 billion on-demand streams in the US.”

Released in August last year, the ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez also made waves as the first African song to reach the billion-stream mark on Spotify.

Additionally, the original version of ‘Calm Down’ received recognition from the Guinness World Records for being the first number one song on the world’s first regional streaming chart, MENA.

Rema’s unprecedented success marks a significant milestone for African music on the global stage, showcasing the growing influence and popularity of Afrobeats worldwide.
