Mary Grace Fajonyomi, a professor of guidance and counseling at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), has revealed a shocking incident where a student stole millions from his father's account to fund a gambling spree and a lavish party.

During a keynote address at a stakeholders' dialogue themed "Stemming the Tide of Social Vices Among Students: Panacea for Growth," organized by the Kwara State Government, Professor Fajonyomi recounted the disturbing tale. She detailed how the student hacked into his father's bank account, withdrawing over N25 million from his gratuity. The money was used to play Bet9ja and to throw an extravagant party for his girlfriend.

The professor expressed deep concern over the rising moral decay among students and urged both parents and the government to take decisive action against such vices.

"I have served as a member of the Anti-Sex for Grade Committee at various universities and as chairman of the Exam Malpractice Committee at Unilorin. There are numerous cases of students who cannot register for exams because they have gambled away their school fees, particularly on Bet9ja," Fajonyomi explained.

She further highlighted the broader issue of internet fraud, mentioning that this particular student used his father's ATM card to withdraw the substantial sum, which was then squandered on gambling and a party.

Professor Fajonyomi also addressed the rampant issue of segxwal harassment in tertiary institutions, noting that despite efforts by authorities to curb it, the problem persists. "The prevalence of this scourge is alarming. Both lecturers and students are deeply involved, and it requires collective efforts to combat it for the benefit of our children and society at large," she emphasized.

The revelations have sparked a wider conversation about the role of parents, educators, and the government in curbing the growing trend of social vices among students.

Youth of this generation is something else. The parents are failing while the society is ready to receive them and corrupt them and useless them.
