Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has vowed to ensure peace and protect his supporters, emphasizing their commitment to truth. The pledge came during a press briefing after a State Security Council meeting held at the Government House on Tuesday, where Fubara addressed rising tensions related to the tenure of local government chairmen.

In a statement signed by Chief Press Secretary Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara condemned any attempts to arrest his supporters on unfounded charges, asserting his readiness to defend them. "This time around, you have to pass through me to arrest them because I don’t think there is anything that any of those people following us has done. Rather, they are standing on the side of truth," he declared.

Governor Fubara highlighted the legal clarity regarding the non-extension of local government chairmen's tenure, reiterating the court's stance on the matter. "The law is the law. The law has said that there is no extension of tenure. The court said so, and whoever that is assuring anybody anywhere of whatever, I advise them to desist from it because peace is what we need in this State," he stated.

He assured the residents of Rivers State of his administration's commitment to maintaining peace and order. "I assure everyone of you that whatever it takes to make sure that we maintain peace and order, we are not going back on that," Fubara affirmed.

The State Security Council meeting was convened in response to escalating tensions following the expiration of the local government chairmen's tenures. Governor Fubara's strong stance underscores his dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of his administration and its supporters.
