A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer sustained injuries on Friday in a hit-and-run incident near the Osun Government Secretariat in Abere along the Osogbo/Gbongan Road. The officer, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was struck by a speeding driver in a Lexus Jeep who refused to stop at a roadblock near the Osun Sector Headquarters.

Eyewitnesses identified as Fatai and Ramota Olagunju, who were nearby roadside traders, recounted the harrowing incident. According to Fatai, the driver, flagged down by FRSC officers, recklessly collided with one of them and dragged him along the road towards Akoda Junction.

"The incident happened between 9 am and 9:30 am today (Friday). The driver was coming from Osogbo towards Gbongan when he was signaled to stop by the FRSC officers. Instead of stopping, he accelerated towards the officer and hit him," Fatai stated.

He continued, "The injured officer was dragged along until he fell off the vehicle. The driver didn’t stop and sped off towards Akoda Junction."

The Sector Commander of FRSC in Osun State, Inyang Umoh, confirmed the incident, reassuring the public that the injured officer was in stable condition.

"The officer is currently stable. We are actively pursuing the driver involved in this reckless act," Umoh stated to City Round.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the driver responsible for the hit-and-run, with FRSC officials intensifying efforts to ensure justice for their injured colleague.
