Tensions rise in Kano State as Commissioner of Police, AIG Usaini Gumel, defies Governor Abba Yusuf's directive to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from the Nasarawa mini palace.

Governor Yusuf, through State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Haruna Dederi, issued the eviction order on Thursday night. However, Commissioner Gumel, in an exclusive interview with PUNCH on Friday, declared that complying with the order would be premature.

"The government itself has filed a case in the State High Court regarding the eviction order, scheduled for hearing on June 24, 2024," Gumel stated. "Carrying out the eviction now would be preemptive of the court's decision."

He emphasized that the police would await the court's ruling before taking any action, highlighting the legal complexities surrounding the directive.

Meanwhile, despite the governor's order, supporters of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero affirmed that he remains at the Nasarawa mini palace, receiving traditional greetings from loyalists. They dismissed rumors of imminent demolition, labeling such claims as social media misinformation.

"There is no truth to the rumors of a bulldozer being stationed here. The deposed Emir is still in residence, and we are maintaining peaceful vigilance," one supporter affirmed.

The standoff underscores the ongoing power struggle and legal disputes surrounding the deposition of Emir Bayero, a pivotal figure in Kano's traditional leadership. As the legal battle unfolds, stakeholders await Monday's court proceedings to clarify the situation and resolve the impasse.
