In a brazen attack, unknown gunmen have abducted a police orderly and a driver attached to His Royal Highness, Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, a prominent traditional ruler in Rivers State. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at the monarch's residence on Eagle Island.

Chief Cornwell Ihunwo is the paramount ruler of the Rumu-Elechi community in the Nkpolu-Orowurokwo area of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.

The abduction was confirmed by Godstime Ihunwo, an executive member of the Diobu Vigilante group and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo. According to Godstime, the incident took place around 8 p.m.

"I received a call about the abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo at about 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024," Godstime Ihunwo stated. "I rushed to his house at Eagle Island, where Chief Cornwell informed me that it was his driver and police orderly who had been taken."

Godstime condemned the abduction, suggesting that the kidnappers' original target may have been the traditional ruler himself. "We condemn the planned abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident," he added.

The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the abduction and stated that an investigation is ongoing to uncover the perpetrators and secure the release of the victims.

The community remains on edge as authorities work to resolve the situation and bring those responsible to justice.
