Tragic Boat Mishap Claims Lives of Two Brothers In Niger State

A tragic boat mishap in Kippo village, Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, resulted in the death of two brothers, according to a statement from the Director of Media and Strategy, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mallam Habibu Wushishi, on Sunday.

The incident, which occurred at 10:00 pm on Thursday, June 20, involved the deceased who were fishing on the River Niger. The boat capsized due to heavy rainfall and a windstorm.

"One of the bodies has been recovered, while search and rescue operations are ongoing to recover the body of the other victim," Wushishi said.

In a separate incident on the same day, bandits attacked the villages of Lanta, Tunga, Dnakau, and Juweedna in Erena, Shiroro Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred at about 5:30 pm, led to the rustling of numerous cows and sheep and the destruction of several houses. Over 600 people have been left homeless.

The displaced residents from these villages are currently seeking refuge at the Erena and Kuta Internally Displaced Persons camps.
