36-yr-old trader murdered by her driver in Jebba

A 36-year-old trader, Mrs Abigail Osakwe, has been murdered by her driver over an undisclosed sum of money in Jebba, Kwara State.

The elder brother of the deceased, Mr Alex Osakwe, who disclosed this to newsmen, on Sunday, said that her sister was allegedly killed by her driver, one  Sule Salau, also known as Elegusi.

According to him, the deceased, who was a graduate of Business Administration from the  Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State, and the driver were to travel to Ilorin to buy building materials the following day when the driver allegedly visited her room at about 3.00a.m. and killed her in an attempt to get the money.

He said that the driver and his late sister counted the money together a day before the incident, stressing that it was the son of his late sister, David, a 5-year-old, who identified the suspect.

Mr Osakwe said that the deceased and her son slept together in the same room when the suspect entered the room through the window and asked the boy not to shout.

The woman, who was already sleeping was attacked with a pestle, which the suspect use to hit her on the head and made sure she died on the spot.

According to Osakwe, her sister, who was a trader, traded in building materials in Jabba until December last year when she decided to employed a driver who would assist her in moving the goods for her.

He stressed that the suspect was arrested by the DPO Jebba Police Station, Mr Kenneth Nwagio, who led a team of policemen to the suspect’s house and later transferred the case to Ilorin.

The president of Delta Association Jebba and it environs, Mr Tony Ofuokwu, while speaking on the issue said that what happened was a shock to everybody in Jebba and called on the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Peter Gana, and the Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim, to look into the issue.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Dabo Ezekiel confirmed the incident, saying that the case of the suspect had been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
