Veteran Yoruba actor Tajudeen Oyewole, popularly known as Abija, recently shared the heart-wrenching story of losing his beloved wife and two children, describing it as the saddest moment of his life. The revelation came shortly after the legendary actor sought financial assistance from his fans during a live session on TikTok.
In a recent interview, the 66-year-old actor recounted how this tragic incident significantly impacted his acting career, leading to episodes of depression. Abija explained that he never anticipated that his time with one of his wives would be their last.
Reflecting on the profound grief caused by his wife’s death, compounded by the subsequent loss of two children, Abija expressed his belief that the entire disaster was a spiritual attack from his former boss, with whom he had a misunderstanding during that period.
"The saddest moment of my life was when my beloved wife, Iya Biodun, died. It was just four days before the Sallah festival that year," he recounted. "I had already bought a ram for the family to celebrate the Muslim festival when the incident happened."
Abija explained that he had to travel from his house in Ibadan to participate in a stage play in Lalupon, Iwo, and other towns. "The show was scheduled for the evening, but due to the long distance, I had to embark on the journey in the morning. Before leaving, I prayed with my family and wished them a happy celebration in advance."
During the event, Abija was shocked to see his brother, who informed him that his wife was critically ill and required an operation to survive. "I told him it was too late to travel back home and suggested we leave the location before daybreak the next day. I did not know that my wife was already dead," he lamented. "My brother had already announced her death to many of my colleagues at the event. When I got home, I met the corpse of my lovely wife."
After his wife's passing, Abija faced further tragedy with the loss of his two daughters. This series of devastating events left a profound impact on his life and career.
