The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially denied claims that it approved any increases in telecommunications tariffs. Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO of the NCC, addressed the misinformation in a statement posted on his verified X account on Saturday, labeling the reports as "fake news."

Dr. Maida emphasized that no new tariff hikes have been sanctioned for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and that consumers will not see any increases in telecom service costs.

The confusion seems to have originated from a document titled “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” which was recently made available on the NCC's website.

According to DAILY POST, an online news source erroneously reported that the NCC had approved tariff increases for major telecom companies, including MTN, Airtel, and Glo. The report claimed that these changes would affect voice, SMS, data, and other services, leading to increased costs for Nigerian consumers.

Dr. Maida's clarification aims to dispel these rumors and assure the public that there are no pending price changes in the telecommunications sector.
