The suspended Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State branch, Dr. Baoku Olusola, along with three executive members, has been officially impeached from office. The decision was adopted during the 2024 NMA Kogi Annual General Meeting held in Lokoja.
Dr. Olusola and his colleagues faced accusations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. The Kogi State NMA Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Dr. Austin Ojotule, presented the findings, highlighting the refusal of the accused to defend themselves despite being given ample opportunity.
Key points of misconduct included Dr. Olusola’s failure to convene a State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting for six months, unilaterally petitioning members of the association to law enforcement without exhausting internal crisis resolution mechanisms, and engaging a lawyer without proper authorization.
The disciplinary committee's report also noted that the association's account had been frozen, preventing a financial review of the EXCO's dealings. As a result, the committee recommended the impeachment of Dr. Olusola and the three EXCO members in accordance with the NMA Constitution.
During the meeting, 72 out of 80 attending members voted in favor of the impeachment. The committee also recommended that an audit committee be established to review the association’s accounts under the incoming EXCO.
