Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for the upcoming Ondo State election, has reportedly been arrested by police. The arrest occurred on Saturday in Akure amidst the ongoing one-million-man protest organized to highlight issues of hunger and economic hardship.
Ajayi, who is also affiliated with the Take It Back Movement, was apprehended alongside fellow activist Patrick Owolabi. The arrest was confirmed by the Take It Back Movement via a statement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, where they condemned the action and called for the immediate release of the detainees.
The organization’s post read: “It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo state and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
In response to the situation, SP Odunlami Ibukun, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, stated, “I have not been briefed on that report.”
