The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), commonly known as KAI, has intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of banned Styrofoam packs in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State. This was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by LAGESC's Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Lukman.

The truck, a Mercedes-Benz 814 with registration number AJK 140 LG, was reportedly loaded with Styrofoam valued at approximately ₦2 million. The truck's owner, a Cameroonian national, claimed that the goods were en route through Akwa Ibom for sale in Central Africa.

Lukman emphasized that Styrofoam remains banned in Lagos State due to its environmental hazards, and the agency's operatives will continue to seize it wherever found.

The Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Cole (rtd), expressed disappointment that some individuals continue to use the prohibited material despite the ban.

It should be noted that the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources implemented a total ban on Styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state in January 2024.
