The Tulla village community in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State is in mourning following the tragic drowning of three teenage girls in a local pond. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, has left the small community in shock and grief.

According to a statement released by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, the victims have been identified as 12-year-olds Fatima Sule and Nasiya Sale, along with 13-year-old Huwaila Sa’adu. The girls reportedly lost their lives while attempting to cut grass near the pond to feed their livestock.

The spokesman for the NSCDC in Jigawa State, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, revealed that the Buji Local Government Divisional Officer received a distress call from concerned members of the Tulla community around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. In response, the division's disaster management team swiftly mobilized to the scene, where they joined local residents in a frantic search and rescue operation.

Tragically, after approximately 30 minutes of searching, the bodies of the three young girls were recovered from the pond. They were immediately taken to the nearest health center in Tulla village, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

Following the confirmation, the remains of the girls were handed over to their grieving families, and they were subsequently buried according to Islamic rites. The loss has deeply affected the Tulla community, which is now mourning the untimely deaths of the young girls.

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the NSCDC has issued a plea to residents to exercise caution during the rainy season, particularly when engaging in activities near bodies of water. The tragic deaths of Fatima, Nasiya, and Huwaila serve as a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise during the wet season, especially for children.
