In a tragic turn of events, a 36-year-old farmer named Sunday Ayenis was found dead on his farm in Uba Oka, Akoko Southwest Local Government Area, just days after receiving compensation from herders for damages to his crops. The brutal killing has left the local community in mourning and raised concerns about safety in the area.

Villagers allege that herders were responsible for the murder, citing the discovery of Ayenis' body with his intestines exposed. His loyal dog, which had accompanied him to the farm, was also found dead beside him.

Sources suggest that the attack may have been motivated by dissatisfaction among the herders over the compensation amount, which had been negotiated by security agents and community elders. The sum was intended to resolve tensions after the herders' cattle damaged Ayenis' crops.

According to a local source, "He went to his farm with his dog as usual yesterday, but when he didn’t return on time, a search party was organized. They found his lifeless body in a pool of blood, with his dog and cutlass beside him."

The gruesome discovery has sent shockwaves through the community. Pius Imoru, a farmer and community leader, expressed the deep fear and sorrow now gripping the village. "The entire community is in mourning. We are scared to go to our farms because of the threat of herdsmen attacks," Imoru said.

In response to the incident, a combined security team of the police and Amotekun Corps has been deployed to track down the assailants responsible for the killing. The investigation is ongoing as the community grapples with the loss and the growing insecurity in the region.
