A devastating accident involving a commercial bus from Abia Line Transport Company Ltd. has resulted in the deaths of eleven passengers, including two babies. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday around 12:45 pm near Umuika Junction on the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt expressway.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Sienna bus lost control after falling asleep at the wheel. The bus first collided with a truck before veering off the road and crashing into the bush, leading to the fatalities.
Ochiegbu, an eyewitness who spoke to ABN TV, described the scene as horrific and said he immediately contacted the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) upon witnessing the accident. “It was a terrible experience,” he said. “I saw the wreckage and the victims, and I informed the FRSC about what had happened.”
Footage aired by ABN TV showed distraught sympathizers at the scene, desperately trying to assist and evacuate the victims from the wreckage.
As of now, neither the FRSC nor the Abia State Police Command has issued an official statement regarding the incident. The cause of the accident and further details are still pending confirmation from the authorities.
