Police operatives at the Zone 2 Command, Lagos have arrested a sales manager with Bashan Global Resources Limited located at 26, Bajulaiye Street, Shomolu, Lagos, Adewale Ademoye, 37, and charged him before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for allegedly selling his employer’s goods valued at N18,269,807 and converted the proceeds to his personal use instead of remiting the money into his employer’s account and fled.

Police alleged that the complainant entrusted goods to the defendant as a sales representative to sell and remit the proceeds into the complainant’s account but that the defendant sold the goods valued at N18,269,807 and allegedly converted the money to his personal use.

Police further alleged that following the development, the complainant petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Durosimi Olatoye who swiftly directed his crack team to fish out the defendant.

The police team through intelligence gathering tracked the defendant and arrested him.

After the investigation by Inspector Njen Ayang and team, the defendant was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court, Oyingbo, Lagos on a four-count charge bordering on fraudulent conversion and stealing.

Police prosecuting Counsel ASP Francis Igbinosa informed the Court in the charge Marked O/37/2024 that the defendant committed the offence between October 2023 and July 2024 at 26, Bajulaiye Street, Shomolu, Lagos.

Igbinosa told the Court that the defendant betrayed the trust reposed in him by his employer as a sales representative, entrusted with different brands of perishable consumer goods such as AoAo drinking mixed apple, bubble chewing gum, milk balls, milk candy, sweet milk creamer and chocolate creamer to him to sell and remit the proceeds into the complainant’s, but that instead the defendant sold the goods and converted the money to his use leading to his arrest.

He said the offences, the defendant committed were contrary to sections 280,2a,b,c and (f) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under sections 287(7)(9)(c)(d) and (e), 313(3), 314,328 of the same law.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, Mrs Erinle granted him N2m bail with two sureties in like sum.

Erinle adjourned the case till 23 August 2024 for mention and ordered through detention warrant that the defendant be detained at the Ikoyi correctional facility till he perfected the bail conditions.
