Multi platinum-selling artiste, Ekweani, popularly called CKay, has unveiled his own record label called ‘Boyfriend Music Limited’.

The 29-year-old songwriter launched the new label which he co-founded with his childhood friend and manager, Joseph Salubi.

In a statement, the management said the music company is dedicated to “helping artistes, songwriters, and producers collect their rightful royalties”.

It added that the label will also provide A&R services for artistes “to unlock their creative potential”.

Quote
“Boyfriend Music Ltd. is excited to announce its official launch in Lagos, Nigeria. Boyfriend Music Ltd is a music management & publishing company dedicated to helping artists, songwriters and producers collect their rightful royalties and providing A&R services to unlock their creative potential,” the statement reads.

“We are committed to creating a formidable and transparent environment where artists, songwriters and producers can focus on their creativity while we handle the complexities of management and music publishing. Every true artist deserves a team that supports their vision without taking advantage of them.

“Our shared history and passion for music have driven us to create a company that truly supports artists, songwriters and producers in every aspect of their careers,” added Joseph Salubi, Managing Director of Boyfriend Music Itd.

“At Boyfriend Music Itd., we believe in empowering creators by ensuring they receive the royalties they deserve and by offering the resources and guidance needed to thrive creatively.”

CKay in an Instagram post also appreciated Salubi, saying, “I couldn’t be more proud of this moment. From us being two young dreamers in Kaduna, Nigeria, to travelling the world and blessing people with the gift of music… Seeing how far we’ve come gives me great joy. I love and appreciate you always broski!”

On his part, Salubi disclosed that he will serve as the managing director of the music company.

CKay rose to stardom following the release of his hit song ‘Love Nwantiti’ in 2019. The song became one of Afrobeats’ biggest exports that took Nigerian music to new frontiers.

After being propelled to global success in 2021 on TikTok, the smash hit single was later certified RIAA 8 times platinum.

‘Love Nwantiti’ which is the lead track of CKay’s EP ‘CKay The First’ continues to extend its record as the most certified Nigerian song in the United States.

He was signed to Loopy Music but later merged with Chocolate City in 2015. Under the label, he released his second extended play ‘CKay the First’ which housed ‘Love Nwantiti’.

In 2021, CKay disclosed that he was not signed to Chocolate City but to Warner Music South Africa.

Last year, the singer expressed delight after award-winning rapper, Olamide enlisted him for his song ‘Trumpet‘.
