Popular Nigerian comedian Gloria Oloruntobi, widely known as Maraji, has revealed that she and her family recently survived a harrowing car accident. The skit maker, who has been notably absent from social media since June 2024, disclosed that the traumatic experience was the reason behind her sudden break from the public eye.
In a heartfelt YouTube video, Maraji recounted the terrifying incident, which occurred as her family was returning from a church service. The vehicle they were traveling in lost control and spun multiple times before finally landing in a ditch.
“If you’ve ever been in a car accident, you know it feels like you’re caught between life and death,” Maraji said, reflecting on the close call. “What made it even scarier for me was the fact that my whole family was in the car—my husband, myself, and my kids.”
She described the accident as something straight out of a Nigerian film, with their car spinning uncontrollably after being hit from the side by another vehicle. Despite the chaotic scene, Maraji expressed immense relief that everyone emerged unscathed. “I checked my kids, and they were okay. Everybody was fine, nobody had any injury,” she shared.
The comedian also spoke about how the incident made her reassess her priorities, particularly the importance of taking time to rest. “It made me appreciate life more and realize the value of rest,” she noted.
Maraji, who first rose to fame on Instagram in 2016 with her lip-sync and miming videos, has since become a well-loved figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry. In 2021, she married a Ghanaian man in a private ceremony, and the couple has since welcomed two children, Jayden and Jordan.
Her return to the public sphere after the accident marks a new chapter, one that seems to be shaped by a deeper appreciation for life and family.
