A bomb planted close to his seat at the flag-off of his second term campaign was discovered before it could explode.
According to the police account, the bomb was planted under a chair beside the governor’s seat.
Also lucky to have escaped what would have been a major tragedy were other dignitaries, including party chieftains and loyalists of the governor who had graced the occasion.

Although details were sketchy last night, it was gathered that the bomb was discovered before the governor arrived the campaign venue.
But the security operatives kept the ugly discovery under wraps throughout the event, so as not to cause tension or jeopardise the event.
Hence, the police did not let out the information until about two hours after the event.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Enugu Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the story, stated that officers of the anti-bomb squad in the state had removed the bomb, even as the police were carrying out investigations to unravel those behind the act.
