In a series of anti-drug operations, operatives from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have seized shipments of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids cleverly hidden in sanitary pads and hair treatment cream containers. The shipments, which were bound for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Cyprus, were intercepted at three different courier companies in Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA uncovered at least 30 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.1 kilograms, concealed in hair cream containers, during an examination of packages destined for Ireland on September 3, 2024.
Babafemi revealed that, just days later, another batch of 24 parcels of cocaine weighing 862 grams, also hidden in hair cream containers and headed for the UK, was intercepted at the same company on September 6.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives confiscated 525 pills of Tramadol (225mg) and ecstasy (MDMA), concealed in sanitary pads, at another courier company. These drugs were en route to Cyprus on September 3. Additionally, on September 4, a shipment containing 200 ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine injections hidden in food items and herbs and destined for London was also seized.
The NDLEA’s operations underscore the agency’s commitment to combat drug trafficking and prevent the export of illegal substances through courier services.
