Details have emerged surrounding the resignation of Ajuri Ngelale, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, who stepped down from his role on Saturday. While Ngelale publicly stated that his departure was due to family medical concerns, sources within the presidency suggest deeper issues led to his exit.
EXCLUSIVE: Ajuri Ngelale Fired, Resignation Linked to Power Struggle
Ajuri Ngelale, known for his eloquence and deep voice, did not voluntarily resign from his position as President Bola Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity due to a "vexatious medical situation" in his family, as initially claimed. Instead, FIJ has confirmed that Ngelale was dismissed by the presidency, only allowed to publicly announce his resignation after multiple pleas for a dignified exit.
In a surprising announcement on Saturday, Ngelale informed Nigerians that he was stepping down, citing urgent medical issues within his immediate family. His resignation also included his departure as the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chair of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
“After consulting with my family over the past several days, I’ve made the difficult decision to take indefinite leave to address the worsening medical matters at home,” Ngelale’s statement read. He also expressed hopes of returning to public service when "time, healing, and fate" permitted.
However, sources close to the presidency told FIJ that Ngelale’s exit had nothing to do with personal health crises. Instead, his departure followed a loss in a power struggle with Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, who reportedly overshadowed Ngelale in internal decision-making.
Ngelale’s tenure as President Tinubu’s spokesperson has now come to an abrupt end, underlining ongoing tension within the administration’s communication team.
