Tragedy struck along the Agaie-Bida road in Niger State on Sunday morning as a fuel tanker explosion claimed the lives of no fewer than 30 people. The deadly incident occurred when the tanker collided with a trailer transporting cattle from Wudil, Kano State, en route to Lagos.
Abdullahi Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the fatalities, stating that 30 bodies had been recovered so far. Arah noted that emergency response teams were still on-site, continuing search and recovery efforts, with more bodies believed to be trapped inside the wreckage.
The accident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the ongoing dangers posed by heavy-duty vehicles on Nigeria's roads.
