Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has revealed shocking details of a village leader’s involvement in a bandit attack that left 30 people dead. The governor disclosed that the local representative accepted a ₦700,000 bribe from bandits, allowing them to carry out the massacre in his community.

Governor Radda made the disclosure during a town hall meeting held in Daura over the weekend, focused on the "2025 Citizens’ Budget Participation Process." He stressed that criminal activities, including banditry, cannot persist without the collaboration of some members of society.

During the meeting, Radda highlighted his government’s commitment to supporting local communities and security agencies in their fight against banditry, kidnappings, and other criminal activities. He introduced an initiative aimed at empowering communities to defend themselves before security forces can arrive.

"I visited Tsamiyar-jino, a village so remote that it took two hours by jeep to get there from the main road. If bandits attack such areas, by the time security forces respond, the damage would have already been done," Radda explained.

The governor expressed frustration with the lack of resistance from communities under attack. "We see five criminals attacking villages with 2,000 to 3,000 residents, molesting women and abducting others without any confrontation. If even 100 youths from the community stood up to these criminals, they could easily overpower them."

Radda condemned the practice of paying ransom to kidnappers, stating that it often leads to the victim's death despite payment. He further revealed disturbing cases of local leaders and other residents collaborating with bandits for personal gain.

"A representative of a village head accepted ₦700,000 from bandits, giving them access to the village where they killed 30 people," the governor said. "Even teachers and women have been arrested for working with the bandits."

The governor announced that Katsina has created a community watch corps, trained to work alongside police and military forces. "We’ve provided them with rifles, bulletproof vests, and other essential equipment to enhance their capability to protect the people," Radda added.

The governor's comments shed light on the deep-rooted corruption and complicity contributing to the ongoing bandit crisis in Katsina State.
