President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a total allocation of N108 billion to support Nigerian states in addressing natural disasters, with each state receiving N3 billion. This initiative is part of the Federal Government's efforts to aid states in managing humanitarian crises and environmental challenges, particularly those exacerbated by severe weather and infrastructure failures.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, whose capital city is facing severe flooding due to the failure of the Alau Dam water channels, confirmed that Borno State has received N3 billion from the Federal Government to tackle the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of the funds in mitigating the adverse effects of the disaster on the residents of the state.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, in affirming the President's endorsement of the disaster management fund, emphasized the administration's commitment to partnering with states to address these critical issues.
Shettima stated: “The President has shown his zeal, willingness, and commitment to partner with the states towards addressing these issues. Recently, he approved the release of N3 billion to each state of the federation to address some of these challenges so that all parts of the federation should have buy-in and belonging.”
